Welcome to our first post on Rooted in Faith! Today, we’re diving into the Old Testament, specifically the first five books known as the Torah (also called the Pentateuch). These sacred writings lay the foundation for our faith and understanding of God’s covenant with His people.
The Torah consists of the first five books of the Bible:
1️⃣ Genesis – The story of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, and God’s covenant with Abraham.
2️⃣ Exodus – The journey of Moses, the Ten Commandments, and the Israelites’ escape from Egypt.
3️⃣ Leviticus – Laws on holiness, sacrifices, and worship practices.
4️⃣ Numbers – The Israelites’ wilderness journey and God’s guidance.
5️⃣ Deuteronomy – Moses’ final teachings before the Israelites enter the Promised Land.
✅ The word Torah means “instruction” or “law” in Hebrew.
✅ It was traditionally believed to be written by Moses under divine inspiration.
✅ The Torah is the most sacred section of Jewish scripture and serves as the foundation of both Jewish and Christian beliefs.
✅ Jesus often referenced the Torah, showing its continued importance in New Testament teachings (Matthew 5:17).
✅ The Dead Sea Scrolls contain some of the oldest surviving copies of the Torah, dating back over 2,000 years!
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105
