Throughout history, humanity has been fascinated by the supernatural. Many seek guidance from spirits, psychics, and mediums, believing these encounters provide wisdom or comfort. However, the Bible strongly warns against these practices, revealing their deceptive nature and the dangers they pose to the soul.
The enemy is known for disguising himself as an angel of light to mislead people. 2 Corinthians 11:14 states, “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” While these spirits may appear benevolent, they are ultimately deceitful. They manipulate individuals into believing they are communicating with deceased loved ones or divine beings, but in reality, they are being led astray by demonic influences.
The Bible strictly forbids consulting the dead or engaging with mediums. Leviticus 19:31 declares:
“Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.”
When people engage in these practices, they are opening themselves up to unclean spirits that seek to defile and corrupt them. God warns His people that such actions separate them from Him and bring spiritual danger.
God’s law is firm regarding necromancy and divination, declaring them an abomination. Deuteronomy 18:9-12 says:
“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.”
These practices open doors to deception, leading people away from the one true God and into spiritual bondage.
God holds people accountable for turning to mediums and necromancy. Leviticus 20:27 states, “A man or a woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.” Although we no longer follow the Old Testament law in this manner, it shows the severity of these sins in God’s eyes.
Similarly, Leviticus 20:6 declares, “I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.” Those who engage in such practices reject God’s authority and bring judgment upon themselves.
In the final judgment, Revelation 21:8 warns: “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” This verse affirms that those who persist in sorcery and deception will face eternal separation from God.
For believers, God promises justice and deliverance. 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 states:
“God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with His powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might on the day He comes to be glorified in His holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed.”
Those who seek after false spirits will face judgment, but those who remain faithful to Christ will be delivered and rewarded in His presence.
The Bible is clear: necromancy, mediums, and divination are deceptive and detestable in the eyes of the Lord. Rather than seeking guidance from the supernatural realm outside of God, we must turn to Him in prayer and scripture for wisdom and truth.
Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5), and through Him, we have access to true peace, knowledge, and eternal salvation. Stay vigilant, seek truth in His word, and avoid the snares of deception that the enemy places before us.
